Signature of the month

Some of golf’s greatest figures never won a major, yet their longevity, consistency, grit, and unforgettable moments made them legends. Signature of the Month celebrates both established names and rising stars, sharing the stories behind my encounters with them and their place in golf’s past and future.

September 2026 – Jerry Kelly

Jerry Kelly turned professional in 1989 and earned his PGA Tour card in 1996, going on to build a career that included three PGA Tour victories and an appearance for the United States in the 2003 Presidents Cup. After turning 50, Kelly moved onto the PGA Tour Champions in 2017 and has been even more successful there, winning 14 times, including three senior majors. His most recent victory came at the 2026 Senior Open at Gleneagles, adding another impressive chapter to a career that has now spanned more than three decades.

I got Jerry Kelly’s signature during the second round of the 2026 Senior Open. I was walking towards the first tee when I crossed paths with him as he was heading to the driving range to start his warm-up. I casually asked him if he would sign a cap, and he happily did. I wished him luck before we went our separate ways. It certainly turned out to be a good omen for Kelly, as he went on to win the tournament just two days later.
